5 Benefits of Using Track Lighting for a Residential Property

We have heard a lot about the benefits of using track lighting in domestic projects from other interior designers over the years. So we decided to experiment with our latest co-living project.

As part of the research, We visited a lighting trade showroom last week to gain some ideas for the lighting plan for our project. By talking to the shop expert, we were really impressed and excited with the possibilities a track lighting system would bring to the communal areas of our co-living scheme.

For anyone not familiar with track lighting, track lighting is a method of lighting where light fixtures can be attached anywhere on a continuous track device that contains electrical conductors. It is used a lot in commercial property and when we started looking into this we started to notice its application in commercial spaces such as shops and restaurants which gave us ideas on how it could be used.

You might have the impression that the track lighting is very cheap and old-fashioned looking. Well, things have changed. There are cost-effective tracks that you can just attach to the ceiling as well as graceful-looking recessed tracks that give you a clean and modern look.

Numerous new features are offered by working with track lightings such as a scene box and wireless controls that provide advanced and flexible control of lighting for your home. You can use wireless smart controls to control the lighting to your preference in different spaces. You can also add smart controls whenever and wherever you want which is very useful if you want to repurpose the space in the future.

We made some effort to research and recognise what could be the benefits of having track lighting and a scene box in a domestic setup and we are glad to share it with you here.

The Benefits

It can complement any style.

Because of the wide ranges available and its simple, streamlined look, it cannot compromise the layout that you want to achieve. It works well with either industrial or contemporary styles.

It is flexible and customisable.

You can change the size and number of fixtures, whatever suits your needs and budget. The lights can be moved, enabling you to concentrate the light on where it is more needed and avoid over-illumination where it is not required. The light intensity can also be changed according to the mood.

It is great for small rooms.

The ability to adjust the direction of the light fixture gives the opportunity to task lighting without needing too many fixtures which is not possible due to the minimal space.

It is cost-effective and energy-efficient.

Multiple track heads can be tapped into the same circuit, thus saving money for the installation. By using three circuit tracks, you can add downlights and pendant lights on the same track.

It is a smart solution.

With the scene box, you can customise the programming options in which you can set your preferred light scenes for different moods for each space from your phone, tablet, or personal computer.

With the increasing building cost, as we were told by our QS, the cost of installation for each spotlight is around £150. With the amount of spotlight needed, it will soon escalate the budget.  We are planning on installing the track lighting in our open plan living and dining space for our latest project. This should give its future tenants complete flexibility to focus on whichever task they will do whether they are preparing for a meal or just lounging in the dining area that can also serve as a working space.

We’ll see how this will turn out once the project is finished and hopefully we can share more insightful experiences with you.
